Serving the Lone Star State

First and foremost, happy new year to everyone!  All of us at the studio hope that holidays have treated you well and the start of 2013 has kept you as busy as we have been – for us, one state in particular right now seems to be keeping us hard at work.  Texas.

Just before the end of the year, we had the great fortune to bring to completion a large commission for the newly constructed St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Austin, TX.  Working with the church’s building committee, liturgical consultant Kenneth Griesemer and the rest of their building team, we designed and created many of the new church’s sanctuary fitments, including an altar, ambo, tabernacle and stand, and the bronze dedication crosses featured throughout the sanctuary.  In addition, we also created a suspended 7’ Corpus and accompanying cross that hangs over the sanctuary and a life-size sculpture of St. Louise de Marillac in linden wood.  Being involved in so many aspects of the parish’s new liturgical art and spending nearly two years hard at work, it was wonderful to celebrate the new church’s dedication on December 29, 2012 – our president Gianfranco Tassara was even able to travel to Austin to attend the church’s dedication on-site with the parish community.

Around the same time, we also had the pleasure to finish a new Corpus for St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Houston, TX.  The 7’ Corpus was cast in fiberglass and finished as polychromed wood, and it was sculpted to resemble an existing Corpus at the Holy Name Passionist Retreat Center also located in Houston.  We think the end result turned out to be a close match indeed and we happy to have the Corpus arrive at the parish safely in time for the dedication of their renovation on December 22, 2012.

New Corpus We Created
In addition to the commissions we wrapped up at the end of the last year, we have two addition Texan projects in full swing now at the start of the new year.  We are currently working on a new Corpus, cross and a new tabernacle case for a heritage tabernacle for St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church and sculptural cremation urns for the Congregation of Cordi-Marian Sisters – both in San Antonio.  Both projects are scheduled to be completed later this year, hopefully with more photos to share soon.
